We at ReadtoIndia believe that learning is something to be enjoyed, not endured. By getting hands-on from the start, our training sessions and workshop let students learn through experience and do more of what they love.
Our first training session focussed on Anju, Kamal, Indulata, Pooja, Rekha - they are all women in Jaipur's Shanti Nagar and come from economically marginalized sections in the area. Single mothers or sole breadwinners are employed by the IFI Jaipur and the Neerja Modi School, where besides their full-time jobs they are also being trained in creating craft objects which can be sold for some extra income.
Within the framework of the Forum Generation Equality in India, 12 of these women will be trained in a digital literacy program financed by the French Institute in India, co-financed by the non-profit organization Read to India, and supported by the Barefoot College International.
The digital literacy program is aimed at equipping them with basic skills in operating computer software and smartphone applications. This could help them set up online marketing, sale, and purchase of products, and communicate on social media.
This training was inaugurated via an online event on Tuesday, 22 June. All 12 participants were present, along with Fatiha Kammoussi and Sanjana Sarkar from the French Institute, Arpita Modi and Gauri Gupta from ReadtoIndia, and the entire team of Barefoot College International.
The training will start in an intensive format from July 19, in Shanti Nagar, Jaipur with a 4 member team from Barefoot College International delivering it over a period of 3 months.
